NTSB report finds trucker at fault for fatal autonomous crash

Over a year ago, media outlets covered the first fatal car accident involving a fully autonomous vehicle. The vehicle, a Tesla Model S, was in autopilot at the time of the collision. Reports that the accident was the result of the vehicle's failure to "see" the semi-truck that was involved in the crash abounded, but further research shows the story was much more complicated than original reports suggest.

What really happened in the trucking accident? The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has released additional information on the crash. According to the federal agency's findings, the trucker was also at fault for this fatal collision.

The accident occurred when the truck made a left hand turn across oncoming highway traffic. The truck did not yield to oncoming traffic. It is very possible that an accident would have resulted even if the vehicle was not on autopilot.

Additional evidence released to the public shows that the truck driver tested positive for marijuana and may have been impaired at the time of the crash.

So who was liable for the car crash? A piece in The Truckers Report discusses the accident, noting the NTSB has deemed the truck driver, Tesla and the car driver all partially responsible for the accident.

What can victims of car accidents learn from this crash? This accident shows one of the many complications that can arise when navigating car crashes and liability issues.

As such, those who are the victims of an accident and believe the other driver was negligent or reckless and that this contributed to the accident are wise to seek legal counsel. An experienced attorney can review the details of the crash and help build a case to better ensure your right to legal remedies is protected.
